FTC Newsletter Autumn 2009

Welcome to the Autumn Tennis Season:
that special wet and windy time of stunning colours and wonderful contrasts. autumnAnd I’m not just talking about the matching woolly hats and gloves.  One interesting point: When other courts go slimy, aren’t we lucky that our plain  unpainted tarmac courts retain their grip so effectively? “The wrong kind of leaves on the court” I hear the other clubs mumble as they slip & slide...

Yes - there IS a reason why we have saved on paint. As you’re probably aware, a small group of FTC members (called the Relocation Committee - see opposite) has been working hard over a number of years to find an alternative location for the club; so we’ve held off on the expense of court paint - thinking the move was imminent! The good news is that  - after MANY frustrating stops & starts we really do feel that we’re now very close to an agreement on the land for the relocation. A BIG thank you once again to this dedicated bunch - and Watch this space.... Regular updates on progress are posted HERE.

On behalf of the committee and the club membership,  we thank Don Cain for all his hard work over the past three years as chairman of the club; and we’re very pleased that Don is staying on the committee.

Paul Silver is stepping down after nearly ten years on the committee - but will continue to help with maintenance.  Juliane Spiers takes Paul’s place, and Susanna has taken on the mantle of secretary. Paul, Juliane & Susanna - many thanks.

All other officers and members of the committee have kindly agreed to continue in their existing roles.

Do remember that all members are very welcome to come to any committee meeting. Meeting dates for the next twelve months are posted HERE, where you will also find minutes & agendas.

We’re very fortunate to have three LTA-licensed coaches who are members of the Club.

Through Susanna Hunt and Alan Elbourn, the ladies and juniors are well catered for (see HERE for more details).

Susanna & Alan ARE aware that the gents are feeling a bit neglected at the moment - and plans to rectify this are underway!
